AWACAN-ED Publications in 2026

As the AWACAN-ED research programme is gathering pace and evaluations of our Public and Primary Care Provider toolkits are being analysed, there have been three recent publications from the team.

First is one of the key papers from Workstream 1 presenting the main findings from the Cross-sectional study that has just been published in BMJ Global Health:

• Time to diagnosis for breast, cervical and colorectal cancer in Zimbabwe and South Africa: a cross-sectional study

Second is the protocol paper for the evaluation of our Public toolkit, recently published in BMJ Open:

• Randomised controlled community trial assessing efficacy of the AWACAN-ED public toolkit to improve cancer symptom awareness and intention to seek help in South Africa and Zimbabwe: study protocol

Third is a scoping review from our PhD Scholar Simbarashe Chinyowa at the University of Zimbabwe which was recently published in BMJ Open:

• Emergency Presentation of Colorectal Cancer in Africa: A Scoping Review

Three more papers from the team are currently submitted and under review and a number of others are being written.
